PEÑAFLOR

Flora

We foster biodiversity by creating and maintaining natural grassland between rainfed crops to provide nesting habitats for protected steppe birds. An area equivalent to 100% of the Plant’s surface is compensated through plantations, with the compensatory programme updated every five years based on continuous monitoring.

Fauna

We safeguard steppe bird populations through the maintenance of nesting boxes and nuptial roosts, as well as the conservation of valuable water ponds, with special attention to the Candasnos pond, a breeding site for the Little Bustard (Otis tarda). Fallow areas are preserved, and 7‑hectare exclusion zones are created around each primillar. A dedicated programme of agri‑environmental measures is implemented to protect steppe birds in critical areas, complemented by the creation and maintenance of natural grasslands between rainfed crops to provide secure nesting habitats
